Our Story
Simon Thorkelin, our founder, lived in the rural country side in Denmark. As an avid animal lover and horse enthusiast he had always dreamt of having his own horse farm. In 2005 that dream became reality.
In 2008 a spirited chestnut mare was born in his stable, it was named Allez, and came to hold a special place in his heart.
However, amidst the picturesque landscape, a silent anguish plagued Allez—a relentless habit of kicking against the confines of her stable. A terrible habit that meant many visits from the vet.
With each day passing, Allez grew more restless from the self-inclicted pain which only resulted in more kicking and thus more pain - a terrible spiral had formed.
They tried everything, from changing feeding schedules and exercise routines to medication and behaviour therapy. Nothing worked. After some time, Allez grew immensely sick from her self-inflicted injuries and had to be put down.
Driven by an unwavering determination and fueled by love for his fuzzy companions, Simon embarked on a quest for a solution. Nights blurred into days as he tirelessly researched and experimented, his commitment unyielding in the face of adversity.
Finally, after a year of tinkering, progress was made and few months later the Kick-Stop Mat was born.
Present Day
Today, Quiet Stable has grown into a family business and with Simon's passing in 2021, the helm has gone to his grandson, me, William. We are joyous and grateful to be on this journey - and to be able to help horses and their owners around the world, so that none suffer the same fate that Allez did.
